POSTURAL ASSESSMENTS

“Posture is the term used to describe the alignment of the Body”

Good posture means the body is balanced and the muscles and joints work at its minimum. However, poor posture means that the body is out of balance and certain muscles must contract strongly to maintain it. Over a period of time muscle imbalance imposes stress on the underlying structures; ligaments and joints causing stiffness, deformities and pain. It is therefore, essential that your posture is corrected. However, it is also important that the posture be examined accurately.

With the guidance of the Therapist, BodyFocus(UK)Ltd is delighted to offer you a variety of the latest technology and techniques used to test performance. By the implementation of such techniques the Therapist is able to determine weaknesses and biomechanical discrepancies that may predispose you to injury.

Body Focus will examine and evaluate your posture before correction can take place.  We will ensure that you are fully aware of your postural problem and an overall look at your lifestyle e.g. illness, working conditions, tension will be devised as these can lead to muscle imbalance and poor body alignment.

TECHNIQUES USED INCLUDE:-

Clinical Testing

By using the range of motion test, muscle lengthening test, and/or manual muscle tests, the therapist can establish the muscles or joints limitations or excessive range of motion and strength. This is then measured and compared with the normal range for that subject or the noninvolved side.

Gait/Running Analysis:

With the use of a treadmill and video camera, the Therapist is able to analysis you walking and running. The Therapist will then guide you through the correct walking or running stance, as well as help you with your breathing and upper body techniques. The video analysis will also determine the exact root of biomechanical injuries. By using this analysis, the Therapist can devise a program to help strengthen these areas.

Isokinetic Analysis

In rehabilitation it is very important to quantify the functional capacity of the human muscular-skeletal system. This Isokinetic technology is an ideal tool for determining the appropriate individual load during exercise therapy to evaluate the progress during rehabilitation.

Strength Testing

By using some of the most advanced testing equipment, e.g. Assisted Back and Leg Dynamometer, Cervical Measurement System and the Digital Hand Grip Dynamometer, the Therapist is able to test specific bodily structures to determine exact injuries or weaknesses that may predispose the individual to injury.

MANIPULATION

During the evaluation of posture, the Therapist will also look at the spine as well as the muscles and joints, as your spine is under constant strain during waking hours. Improper lifting techniques, poor posture, accidents, falls, training, repetitive strain injury and other causes can contribute to spinal strain. Timely adjustments can help eliminate that imbalance or disruption so that the body can function at its true potential.

However, special attention needs to be given when adjustments are being made. BodyFocus(UK)Ltd works closely with a team of registered, highly qualified, chiropractors which we will refer you to if necessary. The practitioners which will ensure that a thorough examination of your body is given before treatment is carried. Additional investigation such as an x-ray or blood test may be needed in order to allow a full diagnosis and suitable treatment plan to be developed for you.
